What is Autism Spectrum Disorder?
Developmental disabilities caused by brain differences are called autism spectrum disorders (ASDs). In some cases, people with ASD have a known disorder, such as a genetic condition. Other causes are not yet known. There are some causes of Autism Spectrum Disorder that act together to change the way most people develop. In terms of ASD and its causes of it, we have a lot to learn. Teenagers and young adults with ASD may have difficulties making and maintaining friendships, communicating with peers and adults, or understanding what is expected at school or work. People with ASD may also suffer from conditions such as anxiety, depression, or attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, which occur more often in people with ASD than in people without ASD.
